Welcome
Wycombe Abbey
Wycombe Abbey Weddings | High Wycombe Wedding Photographer
Wycombe Abbey is built on the site of the 17th century manor house Loakes Manor in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, where it served as a family home until 1896 when it was sold to the syndicate that created Wycombe Abbey school.
Architect James Wyatt transformed it, in the early 19th century, when he added the north block building in local grey stone. At the same time, re-facing the earlier building in the local stone and castellating the roofs.
Today’s Wycombe Abbey is a jewel of the romantic Gothic style which makes it an ideal wedding venue and a perfect backdrop for your High Wycombe wedding photographer.
Set in 170 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds in the middle of High Wycombe, it’s hard to believe that you’re less than a mile from the M40 when you experience the peace and tranquility you feel as you walk around the estate.
On a summer’s day the west elevation of the abbey seems to glisten in the sunshine; providing a fantasy background for your wedding photos. I love its drama on an overcast day as well. And, whatever the weather, it’s always a pleasure to be a Wycombe Abbey wedding photographer.

Of course we all wish for a beautiful wedding day but if it does rain there’s no need to worry as you can still find some stunning gothic architecture inside the abbey as well. If you’ve got time, I’d thoroughly recommend having a few portraits on the steps under one of the gothic stone archways in the foyer of the main building.
The corridor of mirrors that leads to the Fisher Library is another location that’s rather lovely for a Wycombe Abbey wedding photographer although you have to be careful not to photograph yourself in the process.
Talking of the Fisher Library, the one word that comes to my mind is light. Lots of beautiful natural light and possibly the most flattering light [for those getting married] I’ve seen in my career so far as a High Wycombe wedding photographer.
The Fisher Library is one of two rooms used for ceremonies at Wycombe Abbey. It can take up to 100 guests. The other is the intimate Cloister Panel room set in the Grade II listed Daws Hill, which can accommodate 50 guests.
Confetti Options & Group Photos | Wycombe Abbey Wedding Photographer
If you are getting married in the Fisher Library, something I find really handy. as a Wycombe Abbey wedding photographer, is that you have the option to leave the ceremony room via the courtyard.
The reason that’s so good is because you can relax outside the main entrance to the room while your guests assemble in the courtyard.
You then walk under the colonnade that’s attached to the libary and enter the courtyard between two ivy-clad pillars. The courtyard is perfect for confetti photos, either as a tunnel or in a gaggle. Whilst I’m talking about the colonnade, I should say that this is also a great option for wet weather, your Wycombe Abbey wedding photographer will find some beautiful horizontal light here.
The courtyard is also an excellent place for any groups shots you’d like taken.
I took the group wedding photo you can see here from the chapel steps but there’s also the option to climb a spiral staircase in the courtyard and shoot down on your wedding party.
I don’t recommend the staircase if it’s raining but the view east from the chapel entrance offers quite a pleasing backdrop for a few romantic portraits if it is raining and will keep both you and your Wycombe Abbey wedding photographer dry.
When the weather’s good, you’re spoilt for places to take wedding photographs around the grounds of Wycombe Abbey. Just hop in the car and drive around the estate with your High Wycombe wedding photographer.
One of my favourite views is across the lake. And, if you’re getting married in the afternoon on a sunny day, this view will give you some beautiful backlit wedding photographs with the abbey.
Romantic Portraits | Wycombe Abbey Wedding Photographer
The entrance to Wycombe Abbey is on the north side of the building. Looking back at this side of the abbey, the gothic turrets tower above your head here bringing some real impact to your wedding photos. If you’d like to have some photos here with your High Wycombe wedding photographer, you will need to keep the area free from parked cars.
