I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you what kind of year it’s been but in spite of the challenges of 2020, I hope it hasn’t been all bad for you. For my part, as a home counties and Oxfordshire wedding photographer, 2020 was looking highly promising – lots of bookings and lots of new experiences on the horizon. Of course most of it didn’t happen but on the upside, a lot will take place next year instead.
One of the good things that did come out of the pandemic for me in 2020 was that I started taking part in the Guild of Photographers’ monthly awards programme. I know the benefits to you may not be immediately obvious but essentially the monthly competitions help photographers develop their skills in composition, technique, editing, lighting and direction. So, if you’re thinking of booking me to photograph your wedding based on my current portfolio you might be encouraged to know that your wedding photos are going to be even better.
As part of the Guild awards programme, there’s also a portrait category and I’ve been successful there too but my main objective in taking part is to enhance my skills as a home counties and Oxfordshire wedding photographer. In all, I’ve won 44 awards for photography this year and 31 were in the wedding category. Here are some of the winners in the wedding category.
Another good thing that came out of 2021 for me was achieving Qualified status with the Guild of Photographers. I know that might sound a bit weird when I’m already working as a home counties and Oxfordshire wedding photographer but it’s actually a professional qualification so you can’t get it without reaching a certain standard in wedding photography in the first place.
To qualify you have to submit a panel of 21 wedding photographs from three different weddings that successfully demonstrate your skills in composition, creativity, technical excellence, lighting, storytelling, technique, presentation and style.
Of course it’s great news for me – you can never have too many qualifications – but more importantly if you’re a bride or groom looking for a home counties or Oxfordshire wedding photographer, it can give you that extra bit of confidence in the photographer you’re choosing.
When you’re looking for a wedding photographer, this is the accreditation (see graphic below) that you want to see and it should link to the Guild of Photographers’ profile page for that member which will also verify that they have the qualification
A lot of wedding photographers display the Registered accreditation for the Guild, which looks virtually identical to the Qualified certificate but all that Registered means is that you’ve paid the membership; it doesn’t mean you’re qualified to photograph weddings so Buyer Beware.
Probably the last significant change I made in 2021 was to introduce a micro wedding photography package. The micro wedding photography package allows you to book me for just three hours; that’s really useful if you’re just having a small wedding or you’re planning an elopement and you only want a small amount of coverage. The micro wedding photography package is available seven days a week, subject to availability of course. Use this link to find wedding photography pricing information.
The micro wedding photography pricing is available for weddings in Oxford, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. I am happy to offer it for London weddings too but additional expenses will apply. Get in touch for quote.
If you’d like to know more about my wedding photography, I’d love to have a chat with you. You check my availability for photographing your wedding here.
