Jane and Cyril didn’t want a traditional wedding but they did want some beautiful photos to remember the story of their day and their lives together in historic Oxford. Here are some highlights along with a small selection of their Oxford wedding photos from the day.
Jane and Cyril’s Oxford Wedding Photos
We couldn’t have had a better day for Jane and Cyril’s stunning wedding in Oxford last month. I’ve never seen the sky look so blue over the Bridge of Sighs, although that’s probably because I’ve never been there at 8.30 in the morning before.
Of course, if you know Oxford, you know you’ve got to there early to avoid the rush in all the public areas around the Bodleian Library, Radcliffe Camera and university church. That said, there were already parties of tourists hovering in the background by the time I got there.
The Great Gates that give you access to the Bodleian Library, Sheldonian Theatre and the south side of the Clarendon Building don’t open to the public until 9.30 on a Sunday but luckily Jane and Cyril are affiliated with the university so we were able to take wedding photos around New College Oxford while we waited for the Bodleian Library to open.
If you’re lucky enough to have a Bodleian Library wedding, you will have access to this areas after the buildings are closed to the public. And whilst that’s too late to capture sun on the buildings, it does give you the option for some stunning night time shots.

New College Oxford wedding photos
The first four photos (above) were taken in the garden and garden quad of New College; this is definitely one of the most beautiful locations I’ve taken wedding photos in Oxford so far. And I’d very much like to go back to do more, so please keep me in mind if you’re planning at wedding at New College.
I took the last photo (above) in the Cloisters where I needed to add a little flash to this lovely pool of sunlight to fill some of the shadows on Jane and Cyril.
Next up, we made our way back to the Old Schools Quad for some Bodleian Library wedding photos. It was starting get busy with tourists so I quickly grabbed the first pic below before returning to Clarendon Quad for a photo on the sunny side.
We finished up with this photo on the steps opposite the Sheldonian Theatre before going to Exeter College for the final leg of our shoot before the actual wedding ceremony.
Unfortunately, this is the only view of Radcliffe Camera worth taking at the moment as the lower part of the building is covered in blue tarpaulin for building work. Shame really but Jane and Cyril are happy with the Oxford wedding photos I was able to capture.
It’s supposed to be lucky if a bird poops on you so hopefully Cyril has a lot of luck coming his way. Here they both are, the consummate professionals, immediately after the pooping incident in the Fellows garden.
I’d like to say we finished our Oxford wedding photos with this next shot but of course we didn’t, I took the shot as we walked to New College earlier in the morning. What we did do was walk from Exeter College to the registry office at Tidmarsh Lane for the wedding ceremony, where we met up with the rest of the family for an intimate ceremony followed by a delicious wedding breakfast at Gees Gallery.
Jane and Cyril wanted an alternative approach to their wedding photography, that celebrated their wedding day and captured elements of the life they’d already shared together in Oxford.
When you book me as your wedding photographer, you can use my time however you like. As long as I know about it well in advance, and what you want is physically and legally possible, I don’t mind.
