A Spring wedding at the Bull Hotel in Gerrards Cross

After weeks of rain and cold weather, it was a thrill (and a bit of a relief) to see the skies turn blue and the sun come out for Shannon and Andy’s Easter weekend wedding at the Bull Hotel in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. Here’s a small vignette of the day.

If you’ve never been to the Bull before, it’s definitely worth a visit. Apart from the historical charm that goes with being a 17th century former coaching inn, it’s also got a lush semi-tropical garden, some lovely bright bedrooms and a good selection of food and drink. In addition, there’s a rather attractive pond on the green opposite, where I took the photo of Shannon and Andy you can see above.

For my part, I’ve been lucky enough to photograph a few receptions at the Bull but Shannon and Andy’s wedding was the first to have both ceremony and reception at the hotel.

Better still, groom and bridal prep was there too. I can’t recommend this enough when it comes to photographing your wedding day. It just gives you the full story.

Typically, as photographers we tend to focus on bridal prep because we can’t be in two locations at the same time and when couples have to choose who gets priority, that’s usually how it works. 

When you’re both getting ready at the same venue, you can have it all. In Shannon and Andy’s case, the two rooms were even on the same floor.

The ceremony was held in the Chalfont suite which had been beautifully decorated with lanterns, flowers and fairy lights, along with white chair covers overlaid with bright blue bows.

 There was a little emotion at the start of the ceremony (and not just from the bride and groom) but it quickly turned to smiles and in no time, we were on our way out for drinks on the terrace.

Once the family and group pics were done, it was off over the road for a few private portraits with the bride and groom. I only had 10 minutes so I opted for Latchmoor Pond on the green at Gerrards Cross.

The wedding breakfast was set up in the Bullstrode suite, a lovely room overlooking the garden. We were there for food and speeches and then ushered into the bar while the room was changed over for the evening.

For our final pics of the day, we agreed to do a smoke shot and a champagne spray. The smoke won’t work at all venues, and some venues won’t allow smoke, but if you fancy experimenting with either of these shots at your wedding – or any other shots for that matter – let me know before your big day.
