Welcome

Kelmarsh Hall

Kelmarsh Hall Weddings | Oxford Wedding Photographer

Kelmarsh Hall is a Palladian country house set in 3,500 acres of Northamptonshire woodland, pasture and gardens. The Grade l listed  property is owned and managed by the Kelmarsh Trust, an independent charitable trust set up by the last owner of the house in the late nineteen seventies.

Available for private parties and events, as well as film and TV productions, Kelmarsh Hall offers one of the most spectacular settings you could hope to find for a wedding celebration and wedding photography.

The front entrance of house opens into the Great Hall, a double height reception room, painted in an Italian rococo-style pink and decorated with classical plaster work and carvings.  The Great Hall was originally designed for receiving guests which of course makes it perfect for greeting your wedding guests and enjoying an informal cocktail after your wedding ceremony.

We all hope for a beautiful sunny wedding day but if does rain, the Great Hall has the most delightful natural light for wedding photographs as well as a viewing gallery where it’s possible to take candid or group photos of your entire wedding party.

Whatever the weather, it’s always a pleasure being a Kelmarsh Hall wedding photographer.

Rain or sunshine, if you’d like some unique wedding portraits inside the house, Kelmarsh Hall has a few private areas where you can briefly escape, including the Library – which looks out to the rear of the house – and the Chinese Room – to the front – which features a fine example of original 18th century Chinoiserie wall paper.

If you’d like some wedding photographs taken in the Chinese Room, it’s good to organise them earlier in the day for best results, as flash photography is not permitted in the room.

Another lovely photo location inside Kelmarsh Hall is the marble staircase; although not quite as well preserved as other parts of the house, it still gives you a sense of the grandeur of this country house and I rather like it both for bridal portraits and couple photos in general.

Getting Creative With Your Kelmarsh Hall Wedding Photographer

I’m not sure there are many locations inside Kelmarsh Hall that can rival the view you get from the Saloon. In my wedding cake photo below you get a sense of how beautiful it is; just imagine what it’s like to get married in front of that window!

If you’re having your ceremony at Kelmarsh Hall, this is where you’ll be standing. The Saloon can cater for 100 guests at your ceremony or 70 for dinner.

Most of my work as a Kelmarsh Hall wedding photographer tends to be capturing candid moments as they happen. During a wedding ceremony, when flash photography is often not permitted, this can mean you lose background detail so it can be worth staging a wedding photograph immediately after the ceremony to capture more of

As a Kelmarsh Hall wedding photographer I find the gardens one of the most stunning features of this property. English Heritage thought so too and gave the gardens Grade II designation as a garden of national significance.

Despite their grand scale, the gardens give you a great sense of intimacy and relaxation, providing a perfect canvas for wedding portraiture, reportage and group photos alike.

Kelmarsh Hall has several outdoor games for guest entertainment, great if you’ve got children. It’s also got plenty of space to setup your own entertainment, if you’re buying games in; read my recent blog on guest entertainment ideas.

For your wedding breakfast and evening entertainment, the Ballroom at Kelmarsh Hall doesn’t disappoint. On a bright day, the room is bathed in late afternoon sunshine but even on a cloudy day you still have ample light to enjoy your celebrations.

The Ballroom, like the Saloon, is also licensed for civil ceremonies; slightly larger than the Saloon, the Ballroom can accommodate 100 guests for dinner or up to 170 standing guests for your evening celebration.

Captured Moments By Your  Kelmarsh Hall Wedding Photographer

There can’t be many venues that offer a ‘top table’ view like this one and, with all that natural light flooding into the room, guests will barely be aware of your Kelmarsh Hall wedding photographer so you’ll have no shortage of candid, natural photos to put in your wedding album.
