Another indoor location for Milton Hill House wedding photo opportunities is the entrance hall.

There’s also the library with its carved Flemish panels, dating from around 1630.

The hotel bar has some great backdrops for photography, including a stunning period fireplace and the bar itself.

The oak room also has some interesting features worth including in your Milton Hill House wedding album.

Unlike most Georgian mansions, Milton Hill House is asymmetrical in its design; it also has some unusual features that accentuate this aspect of its architecture, such as the portico at the garden side of the house and the narrow porte-cochere to the front.

Both architectural features make for attractive photography although the availability of parking either side of the porte-cochere does make it difficult to include the full width of the front elevation in any couple photos without parked cars.

If you’re not concerned about having pictures at the front of the building, you’ll find there’s no shortage of locations around the grounds for you and your Milton Hill House photographer to explore.

As for most venues, outdoor photo opportunities at your Milton Hill House wedding are largely weather dependent.

Having said that, there are two portico-type structures (mentioned earlier) as well as the pergola in the Italian Garden that can give an outdoor look to your photos without you standing in the rain or having to walk on wet grass.

Talking of being outside, if you like the idea of getting married outside, you can host your Milton Hill House wedding in the venue’s Italian Garden.

During the summer months, you’ll find a good selection of flowers, shrubs, trees and climbers within the garden walls, offering a variety of backdrops for photos.

When you exchange your vows in the Italian Garden, the ceremony typically takes place under the pergola (shown in the picture above) with the pathway up to the pergola providing the aisle and guests seated either side of the aisle.

The rest of your wedding celebrations usually take place inside the house.

However, if you want to host your entire Milton Hill House wedding outside, including wedding breakfast and evening entertainment, I believe the venue can provide a marquee.

For ceremonies and celebrations inside the house, Milton Hill has several options; ranging from the intimacy of the Library and the Oak Room– ideal for smaller wedding parties – up the Wisteria Suite which can accommodate around 140 guests.

Exclusive use of the venue is possible for your Milton Hill House wedding but you’ll probably need to fill a large proportion of the hotel’s accommodation – some 120 rooms – or else pay a premium for the privilege.

The day I photographed this particular wedding, there were two other brides (and their grooms) staying at the hotel; I was quite relieved to find that all of those weddings were happening somewhere else.

If you’re getting married in mid-summer , you’ll probably need to add a couple more hours if you’d like to add a few night portraits to your wedding album.
