Welcome

Shendish Manor

Shendish Manor Weddings | Hertforshire Wedding Photography

Shendish Manor was built for the Longman publishing family in 1853 and it remained the family home for over 80 years until it was sold to John Dickinson Stationery in 1936.

Today, the Grade ll listed manor house is one of West Hertfordshire’s most popular wedding venues, providing an intimate setting for large and small wedding celebrations and a stunning backdrop for all of your wedding photographs.

Shendish Manor Hotel can accommodate weddings for up to 320 guests but inside the manor house itself, the maximum capacity is 120 guests. If you’re planning a small intimate ceremony, the Dickinson Suite (pictured below) can take up to 60 people.

Ceremonies in the Dickinson Suite usually take place in front of the fireplace but if you want your Shendish Manor wedding photographer to be as unobtrusive as possible, getting married in front of the window can be a good option as your photographer won’t need to use flash to get you perfectly exposed wedding photos.

Working With Your Shendish Manor Wedding Photographer

Above the garden entrance to Shendish Manor there’s a small roof platform, ideal for confetti photography and large group wedding photos. If you like the idea of an aerial shot of your guests, make sure you keep the ground behind the group free of tables and chairs so you end up with a lovely uncluttered photograph that you’ll want to include in your wedding album.

One of the first things you notice about Shendish Manor is its beautifully lush gardens. On my last visit to Shendish, my bride and groom were keen to be photographed with some of the manor’s more exotic garden specimens. Here’s one of those photographs (above), featuring some South American monkey puzzle trees, that made it into the wedding photo album.

Also to the rear of the manor house, is one of two Gazebos available for outdoor ceremonies at the hotel. The one shown below is suitable for outdoor weddings with up to 120 guests. On a hot sunny day, I found the canopy of the Gazebo was a super location for cooling down and taking some romantic wedding portraits of my bride and groom.

If your guest list is too large for the Dickinson Suite but you still want to get married in the manor house, you’ll probably find yourself in the Longman Suite.

The Longman Suite takes up to 120 guests and can be used for both your ceremony and your wedding breakfast. It’s a lovely south-facing room with huge amounts of natural light making it easy for your Shendish Manor wedding photographer to capture a few candid moments, particularly during the speeches.

If you’re lucky enough to get a sunny day, you’ll find lots and lots of beautiful locations around the grounds that are ideal for sunset wedding photos. I’ve barely scratched the surface, as a Shendish Manor wedding photographer, when it comes to sunset and night wedding photography, which is one of the reasons I love going back.

Between the Dickinson Suite and and the Longman Suite you’ll find an enchanting foyer with delicately painted gothic arches and decorative plaster moldings and cornice.

This is where you wait for your cue to enter the ceremony room and where you toast your new spouse after the ceremony. It’s also where the dancing takes place, including your first dance.

As standard, my Shendish Manor wedding photographer package provides eight hour coverage, usually from bridal prep to first dance, but you can buy extra hours if you need them.
